Spaced Out was composed in August of 2020 while I was in quarantine at my apartment. The inspiration for the title came from the social distancing that had become standard at the time. As a play off of that concept, I spread out the instruments and melodies evenly across the performers, using composite rhythms of the individual parts to form the melodic content.
This piece is great for an early to intermediate high school quartet, and will focus on balancing and blending similar sounds to form complete melodic lines. At times some parts are trickier than others, but overall they are even in difficulty from player to player.
